History
In 1936, the Pullman, Washington Kiwanis club started a "Circle K House" at Washington Sate College to house young men who needed assistance to attend college. It became affiliated with a fraternity, but was still sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.
In 1947, Circle K evolved from a fraternity into a service-oriented organization. The first true Circle K club was formed at Carthage College in Carthage, Illinois.
There are currently over 13,300 Circle K members in 16 nations in North America, South America, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and West Africa making it the largest collegiate service organization in the world. Collectively, these members perform over 1 million service hours each year. Circle K clubs have raised over $523,000 for UNICEF, which will protect about 2.5 million children from Iodine Deficiency Disorder, the leading cause of preventable mental retardation in the world.
