Adult students returning to college, or just starting out, are special students. You have competing responsibilities – family and career – and know what you want from your investment in a college education. That's why UNO offers:
UNO's Division of Continuing Studies offers adult students a flexible, individualized degree program backed by the faculty and resources of a respected and fully accredited university.
Our Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree is one of the nation's oldest for students 21 or older. Awarded to over 22,000 students since 1951, all courses are taught by University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) faculty. Students must meet the same rigorous standards as those in UNO's traditional degree programs and, therefore, receive the same quality education. There are over 40 areas of concentration available to prepare you for the career or advanced degree that best fits your plans for the future. You will receive a multidisciplinary, liberal arts education, which is highly valued in today's workplace for developing critical thinking and decision-making skills.
You can also use what you have already learned, as the degree allows credit for military service schools, some workplace training programs, and most coursework completed at colleges and universities accredited by a post-secondary regional association.
The University of Nebraska at Omaha has six colleges where you can earn your bachelors degree in addition to several University of Nebraska Lincoln academic programs that offer coursework on UNO’s campus.
As a graduate student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, you will have the opportunity to develop independent scholarship and gain greater competence in research at a school that is dedicated to graduate education and programs that combine rigor, innovation and real-world experience.
The online degree program is also available for adult learners who require added flexibility. This fully online and accredited undergraduate degree program will help you thrive in today's complex, competitive, and rapidly changing work environment.
We understand that every one of our students wants to work at their own pace. Some choose the slow but steady approach by enrolling in a class or two each semester, while others take classes full-time and finish a bit quicker. However you want to pursue your degree, our Academic Advisors are here to help you map out your course.
If you need to take a breather, remember, you can start again and not lose any steam – your requirements will stay the same as when you first started in the Division of Continuing Studies.
Are you a returning student who didn't do well the first time you went to the University of Nebraska? Academic Amnesty might be an option for you. Talk to an advisor to see if you are eligible.
Whatever your background, we'll help you find your place at UNO.
