Scholarship Information

The UNO Chemistry Department annually seeks applications for scholarships held by our students.  Chemistry majors entering the university in the fall are eligible for the Harry Jerome Talent Scholarship and Hitchcock Scholarship in Chemistry.  Students entering UNO in the Pre-pharmacy curriculum are eligible for the Sterling Drug Talent Scholarship.  Chemistry majors continuing for another year at UNO may be eligible for one or more of four scholarships: the Fred W. Upson Grant-in-Aid, the Nell Ward Memorial Scholarship, the William and Margaret March Scholarship in memory of Nell Ward, and Dr. & Mrs. Tim D. Leon Scholarship in memory of Nell Ward.  Application to each of these is due in mid-March.  Click the links below to download the scholarship criteria and applications.

 

UNO scholarships for current chemistry students

The Fred W. Upson Grant-in-aid (Download) is available only to a Chemistry major or student conducting chemical research. The size of the award varies; it is expected to be over $3,000. The complete application is to be in the Chemistry Department office, DSC 337, by noon, Wednesday, March 21, 2007. To be eligible for the UNO Fred W. Upson Grant-in-aid, you must:

    1. be a chemistry major or chemistry research student at UNO

    2. be a resident of Nebraska for ten (10) years

    3. be in the top 25% of your class

    4. be a full-time student for the entire year of the grant

    5. submit a complete application

The Nell Ward Memorial Scholarship (Download) is available only to students part way through a chemistry program . The award is expected to pay $1,000 per year. This application is due by noon Wednesday, March 21, 2007.

UNO scholarships for students entering as chemistry majors

The Harry Jerome Talent Scholarship and Hitchock Scholarship are awarded to students with no prior college work. Both pay $750 per year and are renewable, provided the recipient makes steady progress in a chemistry program and continues to satisfy eligibility requirements. Current deadline for application is noon Wednesday, March 21, 2007.

 

Summer Medical and Dental Education Program(SMDEP)

SMDEP is a free (full tuition, housing, and meals) six-week summer medical and dental school preparatory program that offers eligible students intensive and personalized medical and dental school preparation. The UNMC's website for this program is found here.
