Chemistry Lab Instructor, Full-Time

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Nebraska at Omaha announces a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure track faculty position starting August 13, 2012.  The successful candidate will have at least a bachelor degree in chemistry or an area of applied chemistry with chemistry course work which approximates a chemistry major. Relevant work experience or graduate study strengthen the application.

Position requires teaching five laboratory sections per semester, Fall and Spring. Applicants must be able to work long periods in a laboratory environment, and must be able to observe student work in progress and demonstrate appropriate techniques. Laboratory assignments may include introductory, organic, and fundamental biochemistry, and will include some multiple sections of an introductory course. Laboratories are scheduled 8:00-11:30 AM, 1:00-4:30 PM, and 5:30-9:00 PM.  Assignments vary, but always include some afternoons and either morning or evening sections.

Other required duties include holding office hours and participating in weekly instructors' meetings with the course coordinator. The laboratory courses are co-requisite to their lecture, but offered and graded separately. Grading rubrics are used to maintain consistency.

Apply at www.unomaha.edu; attach cover letter, resume, and contact information for references.  Send transcripts or copies to: James Carroll, Chair, Chemistry Dept, UNO, 6001 Dodge St, Omaha, NE 68182-0109 or UNOChemistry@unomaha.edu. Applications accepted until position is filled.
