Chemistry B.S.
Four-Year/Eight Semester, 120-Credit Hour Program*

*Scheduled to allow completion of UNMC College of Pharmacy entrance requirements in three years.

A B.S. degree in chemistry requires a minimum of 42 credit hours of approved chemistry courses.


The required 33 credit hours of core chemistry courses are: CHEM 1180, CHEM 1184, CHEM 1190, CHEM 1194, CHEM 2250, CHEM 2260, CHEM 2274, CHEM 2400, CHEM 2404, CHEM 2500, CHEM 3350, CHEM 3354, CHEM 3360, CHEM 3364, CHEM 3414, and CHEM 3514.


The cognate courses: MATH 1950, MATH 1960, PHYS 2110, PHYS 2120 and the associated physics labs are also required. Calculus III (MATH 1970) is recommended.


Students must take at least nine credit hours from the list of  advanced courses and research. Advanced courses exist in six areas: analytical (CHEM 4400, CHEM 4404); biochemistry (CHEM 4610, CHEM 4650, CHEM 4654, CHEM 4660, CHEM 4664, CHEM 4670); inorganic (CHEM 4500, CHEM 4510); medicinal (CHEM 3710); organic (CHEM 3210, CHEM 4230, CHEM 4240); and polymer (CHEM 4310).


To graduate with an ACS certified degree, the student’s program of study must also include biochemistry (CHEM 4650 or CHEM 4610), two additional upper-level lectures, and one additional credit hour of upper-level lab.
