 Procedures for Formal Acceptance
to Teacher Preparation Program

All Pre-Education students interested in becoming teachers must formally apply for admission to the Teacher Preparation Programs. Admission is selective. Applications will be reviewed by the Admission Review Committee (a subcommittee of the Academic Standards and Policy Committee).

Teacher Preparation Admissions Need to Know

1) Do I need to have two copies of the CHECKLIST?
2) How much of the PPST information do you need in the packets?
3) What should I do if I tested out of a prerequisite course?
4) Do I need two notarized originals of the Rule 20-21 form?
5) Why do I have to have two packets?
6) What is the submission deadline?
7) What is the turn-around time, how soon will I know anything about my acceptance?
8) How will I be notified about my status?
9) It’s March, I want to complete and turn in my application for the July deadline, but I don’t have my UNO grades yet to put on the application.  What should I do?
10) I am completing my English, Math or Speech class during the semester I wish to submit the application.  Can I be concurrent in one or any of these classes and complete the application?
11) What if I am taking a course at Metro or another institution and grades are not reflected on my “unofficial” E-bruno transcript yet?

1) Do I need to have two copies of the CHECKLIST?
Yes, a copy of the check list should be attached to each application packet.
2) How much of the PPST information do you need in the packets?
You need only attach the front page of the PPST information, as long as all the test scores are listed in the bottom area of “HIGHEST SCORE AS OF…”
 3) What should I do if I tested out of a prerequisite course?
If you tested out of a course, indicate “Tested” and the year on your application.
 4) Do I need two notarized originals of the Rule 20-21 form?
You need only have one Rule 20-21 form notarized, take a copy of the original for your duplicate packet.
 5) Why do I have to have two packets?
The applications are read by a committee and for immediacy two application packets are used.   For ease in collecting your materials just create one “original” and then take a copy.
 6) What is the submission deadline?
The submission deadline is 5:00 p.m. on the date listed on the CHECKLIST, i.e.  October 1, March 1, and June 1.  Keep in mind that if you turn your packet in earlier than the deadline date/time you may have an opportunity to correct any errors or omissions of information that has caused a submission rejection.
 7) What is the turn-around time, how soon will I know anything about my acceptance?
Turn around time will be as quickly as the committee can meet and review all the data submitted.  You will receive an initial e-mail regarding “confirmation of application” shortly after you have turned in the packets.  Actual program acceptance or deferral information will be sent to you as soon as the committee has made its decision.
 8) How will I be notified about my status?
The College of Education uses the UNO Lotus Notes (e-mail) program for student communications.  You should receive correspondence from this source, be sure to check your UNO e-mail daily.
 9) It’s March, I want to complete and turn in my application for the June deadline, but I don’t have my UNO grades yet to put on the application.  What should I do?
Wait until your grades for the spring semester are posted.  You will need current, accurate information for your application.  i.e. GPA, course completion dates & grades, and an accurate up to date printout of your unofficial e-bruno transcript.
 10) I am completing my English, Math or Speech class during the semester I wish to submit the application.  Can I be concurrent in one or any of these classes and complete the application?
No.  You need to have completed your English, Math and Speech classes and have grades posted.  The only classes that would be an exception to this would be EDUC 2030 (Human Relations) and EDUC 2020 (Foundations of Education).  You may be in one or both of these classes concurrently and complete your application.  Just indicate the semester and the year in the appropriate box on your application.
 11) What if I am taking a course at Metro or another institution and grades are not reflected on my “unofficial” E-bruno transcript yet?
If E-bruno does not reflect all of your current coursework, attach a copy of your grade report or “unofficial transcript” for the class  to your E-bruno transcript pages.  Don’t forget to have your transcript sent to the UNO Registrar from your other school.
