the requirements

Eligibility
Graduate faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences
Nominator
Department or program chair or UNO colleague
Submissions

  • the candidate’s C.V.
  • a letter from the nominator that addresses the quality and importance of the candidate’s scholarship relative to his/her discipline.
  • a letter from the candidate’s department chair (if the chair is not the nominator) or other seconder supporting the nomination.
  • other letters of recommendation, ideally, including letters from experts outside the University of Nebraska System.

Criteria

  • contribution to intellectual environment locally, regionally, nationally, or internationally through excellence in research
  • originality/creativity and significance of the research
  • presentations, invited/refereed at conferences at professional meetings at local, state, national, or international forums
  • professional research activity, such as grants (completed and funded)
  • awards and honors received relative to research
  • participation in the publication of a scholarly journal as part of the editorial board
  • other activities that may not have been addressed by the guidelines stated above

 

the process

Nomination
Nomination forms, complete with signatures, may be submitted either in hard copy or pdf to Joan Bell no later than September 13, 2013.  As secretary to the Advisory Committee, Joan will send out a congratulatory email to all nominees, copied to department chairs (and/or nominators) which will include the url for the award procedures and requirements.

Letters of Support
The dean’s office will solicit all letters of support excluding letters of nomination.  Nominees will submit a list of names to be contacted for letters of support to Joan no later than September 27, 2013.   For those listed who are not current employees or students of UNO, nominees must provide a home, business, or email address.

Nominees may want to also contact their list of supporters directly to encourage their participation.

Nominees are encouraged to supply a few more names than the required number of support letters to increase the likelihood of sufficient responses. 

Letters of support may be submitted either in hard copy or digital format to these respective addresses:

Letters as well as all support materials must be received by October 11, 2013.  A postmark of September 28 is not sufficient.

Nominees may want to check with Joan regarding receipt of solicited letters and to contact their supporters directly in the case of letters not yet received.

 

Committee Review
The Advisory Committee will work throughout the fall semester reviewing award materials.  Their recommendations to the dean will be completed no later than November 29, 2013. 

Award Announcements
Letters of congratulations from the dean will go out to all award winners as well as all nominees no later than December 24, 2013.  Copies will be sent to respective department chairs.
