Arts and Sciences Hall

Arts and Sciences Hall, dedicated in 1938, is the original building on the west Dodge campus. Many opposed the west Dodge location at the time as they feared the municipal university would become a school for "the children of millionaires." The controversy was finally settled by an unexpected grant of $414,000 from the Public Works Administration. The grant required short deadlines that forced a decision in favor of the west Dodge location. Sources suggest that the grant was engineered by FDR himself.
