This focused on how North and South Omaha can take advantage of the Turn Back Tax offered by the State of Nebraska. Strategic Planning Session. This addressed issues on which North and South Omaha can advocate together. Omaha Mayoral Debate. Hal Daub vs. Jim Suttle. The debated focused only on issues related to North and South Omaha. Partnered with Building Bright Futures Truancy Initiative at UNO for a forum addressing truancy issues. |
Brown Black Common Issues as identified by stakeholders
1. Closing the Achievement Gap
Identify actions that will reduce the success disparities between students of color and white students as identified in outcomes such as class rank, scores on achivement tests, employment after graduation, admission, retention and graduation from college.
2. Cross Cultural Dynamics
Provide cross cultural education with emphasis on the commonalities between Latino and African American practices and traditions which can result in programs and services that mutually benefit both communties.
3. Health Disparities
Identify actions that will reduce the barriers to accessing quality health care that face Latino, African American and immigrant communities.
4. Justice and Community
Collect information of joint concern to Latinos and African Americans linked to the administration of justice affecting both juveniles and adults. The goal will then be to identify actions that can be undertaken by the BBC to effectively addres the concerns.
5. Employment/Economic Development
Develop and distribute a set of 'best practices' related to recruitment, training and retention specific to Hispanic/Latino and African Americans.
