Stair Negotiation.

Project director: Dr. Ka-Chun (Joseph) Siu

Team members: Dr. Vallabhajosula, Chi Wei Tan

Stair navigation can be a difficult task for pathological patients as well as older adults. Muscular demands during stair navigation (ascent or descent) are different than demands during level walking. For those with muscular weaknesses or pathologies, navigating stairs can be a cumbersome and painful task. However, stair negotiation is a common activity that must be performed frequently. Therefore, the muscular demands and responses (joint moments and powers) of stair negotiation must be understood in order to develop relevant treatment and rehabilitation. In addition, the use of a handrail is poorly understood. stair
