Undergraduate Scholarships for 2008-2009
Applications are available in the Biology office. The deadline for the following scholarships is March 14th 2008.
Dr. Merle E. Brooks Academic Achievement Award in Biology and/or Science Education
Eligibility criteria for this award are:
1. Undergraduate (junior or senior class) or graduate students majoring in a degree program in the Biology Department or in Biology Education in the Department of Teacher Education in the College of Education at UNO.
2. A cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 overall and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 in all coursework required in the Major.
3. Candidates desire to pursue a career in the area of plant sciences, limnology (aquatic ecology) and/or teaching biological sciences at the high school level following graduation from UNO.
The value of this award is approximately $1,000.
Application forms are available in the Biology office (Allwine Hall 114). The completed applications are due by noon March 14, 2008.
Dr. Barbara Hayhome Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship: This is intended for
students during their final (senior) year as biology majors, biotechnology majors, or environmental studies majors (life sciences option). Approximately $1,000. More
than one may be awarded each year (3 were awarded for 2007-2008). Applicants must
have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and minimum of 58 credit hours.
Current recipients for 2007-2008: Eric Hain, John Harnisch and Lacey LeGrand
David Chesneau Memorial Scholarship: This is intended for students during their final
year as biology majors, biotechnology majors, or environmental studies majors (life sciences option). Approximately $800-1,000. Applicants must have a minimum of
18 credit hours in Biology courses, 58 credit hours cumulative, and a minimum 3.3 GPA .
Current recipient for 2007-2008: Mitchell Kramer.
