| UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BSBI DEGREE |
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of 132 credit hours is required for the degree.
- Students may follow the UNO catalog requirements in effect at the time of their
first enrollment, provided continuous enrollment is maintained.
- Thirty of the last 36 hours required for the degree must be taken in residence
at UNO.
- Registration in courses without having taken the stated prerequisites could
result in administrative withdrawal.
- Courses such as English 1050, 1090, and 1100 and orientation courses in other
colleges or divisions may not be counted as part of the minimum 132 credit hours
in the degree program.
- Four semester hours of physical education may count toward your degree.
- No more than a maximum of 12 semester credit hours of approved courses may
be taken in any one department outside of the College of IS&T with the exception
of foreign languages and major courses. A maximum of 16 semester credit hours
in any one foreign language may be applied to the degree. More than one foreign
language is allowed.
- A repeated course may count only once for graduation (exceptions –
internships, independent study, and physical education activity courses, special
topics).
- Students must see their departmental advisor regarding the specific requirements
for their major. Students may go by the UNO catalog requirements in effect at the
time of their first enrollment provided continuous enrollment is maintained.

- For the purposes of meeting general education requirements, distribution
requirements, and prerequisite requirements for classes, a "C-" is
considered the functional equivalent of a "C", and a "D-"
is considered the functional equivalent of a "D" keeping in mind that
a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for the College of Information Science
& Technology.
- Students must obtain a grade of "C-" or better in each class
for the purposes of meeting university requirements, departmental and college
requirements. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for the College of
Information Science & Technology.
- Students must complete an on-line Application for Degree during the semester
in which they plan to graduate. Log on to E-BRUNO and fill out the application
on or before the deadline for that graduation ceremony. There is an Application
Degree Fee, payable at the time the application is submitted. After submitting
the application, visit the UNO Bookstore as soon as possible to order your cap
& gown and graduation announcements. Deadlines to order graduation items
will vary depending on the ceremony in which you plan to participate. Please
contact the Bookstore, 554-2336, with any questions.

| Fundamental Academic Skills and Distribution Requirements |
| FUNDAMENTAL ACADEMIC SKILLS 12 hours |

| English and Writing |
9 Credit Hours |
To satisfy the English and Writing requirements, the student must take ENGL
1150 and ENGL 1160 (or equivalents) and ENGL 3980 or ENGL 2400.
- For students testing into ENGL 1150, the nine-hour requirement is satisfied
by completing ENGL 1150, ENGL1160 and ENGL3980 or ENGL 2400. For students testing
into ENGL 1160, the nine-hour requirement is satisfied by completing ENGL 1160,
any three additional hours of English at the 2000 level or above, and ENGL3980
or ENGL 2400. For students testing proficient on the English Placement Examination,
the nine-hour requirement is satisfied by completing six hours of English at
the 2000 level or above and ENGL3980 or ENGL 2400.

Students must satisfy 27 credit hours of Distribution requirements

Must complete at least 9 hours of humanities courses, 3 hours of which must
be CIST 3110 Information Technology Ethics. See distribution requirements on
pages 9-11 for remaining course selections.
| Social Science |
9 Credit Hours |
Must complete at least 9 hours of social science courses. See distribution
requirements on page 13 for specific course selections.
| Cultural Diversity |
2 Courses |
Must complete at least two courses in cultural diversity. See distribution
requirements on pages 14-15 for specific course selections. Students may apply
selected Cultural Diversity credit towards satisfaction of the Humanities or
Social Sciences requirements.
| Bioinformatics Recommended Electives |
9 Credit Hours |
A student must elect three courses totaling to at least 9 credit hours. A student need not take all electives from the same subject area. At least two of the three electives must be at the upper level (3xxx-4xxx); only one may be a lower level (1xxx-2xxx) course. (See page 8 for a list of pre-approved elective courses.) Students may petition the Bioinformatics undergraduate committee for a course not listed to count as an elective. Students must complete the Bioinformatics elective proposal form. For declared pre-med students (only), the additional courses taken to fulfillthe pre-med requirements will completely fulfill the Bioinformaitcs electives requirement.
