The Batchelder Biblical Archaeology Conference

Each fall, UNO hosts the Batchelder Biblical Archaeology Conference, which draws leading authorities on Biblical history from around the world. While many of the daytime sessions are academic in nature, evening lectures appeal to the general public, and all are welcome. The 2012 conference is scheduled for Nov. 8-10. Check back with us soon for details on conference sessions.

The keynote address at the 2011 conference was delivered by James H. Charlesworth, the George L. Collord Professor of New Testament Language and Literature in the Department of Biblical Studies at Princeton Theological Seminary. Read more about Dr. Charlesworth.

25th Anniversary photo exhibit and fundraiser

To celebrate the 25th anniversary, the UNO Art Gallery will host an exhibition of photography from the site taken by longtime Bethsaida photographer Hanan Shafir. The images capture both archaeological discoveries and the sense of wonder they inspire among student excavators. On Aug. 23 at 6 p.m., a pre-opening reception will feature remarks by Dr. Arav and other excavators, including an update on the recently completed 2012 summer dig. Several gift items, including commemorative pottery shards from Bethsaida, will be raffled. Photography will be for sale by silent auction.

Anyone can attend the reception. Tickets are $50 at the door and $40 in advance. Proceeds from the event will support continued excavation and study of Bethsaida. For tickets, contact:

The photography exhibition will remain open to the public from Aug. 23 to Sept. 27. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Student groups and others can contact the gallery to make special appointments. The Art Gallery is located in the Weber Fine Arts Building on the west side of UNO’s main campus, 67th and Dodge Streets.
