Lt Col Stephen P. Barrows, Commander

Lt Col Stephen P. Barrows is Commander of Detachment 470, Air Force ROTC, University of Nebraska - Omaha. In this capacity, he commands, leads, and directs an AFROTC unit tasked with recruiting, training, and educating Air Force officer candidates. Additionally, he serves as the detachment's education officer and teaches the Aerospace Studies 200 and 400 level courses.

Lt Col Barrows graduated from the US Air Force Academy and continued on to earn a Master of Arts degree in Economics at Penn State University. He was assigned as an acquisition project manager in 1993 at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH where he managed avionics programs. In 1997, he returned to the US Air Force Academy as an Economics Instructor. Following instructor duty, he was selected to continue his education earning a PhD in Economics at Auburn University in 2002. That accomplishment was followed by an assignment to Los Angeles where he worked on Space Acquisitions. In 2005, he moved to Robins AFB, GA where he provided support to the F-15E aircraft. In 2008, he returned to the US Air Force Academy where he served as the Director of Economics. He also deployed as an academic mentor to the Social Sciences Department of the National Military Academy of Afghanistan in Kabul.
