Background

Russell Smith has been a member of the UNO faculty since 1986. Dr. Smith served as director of the Center for Public Affairs Research from 1986-1998, and as director of the School of Public Administration from 2000-2006.

Smith completed his Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville with a specialization in public administration and public policy. Smith teaches courses in strategic planning and research methods. During his career at UNO, Dr. Smith has been active in working with the community to promote research and outreach. Smith has also been active in obtaining external funding to work with both local community and international partners on public management, public policy, and community development research and outreach projects.

Responsibilities

As Director of Institutional Effectiveness, his current responsibilities are the development of campus management information and institutional studies. The Office of Institutional Research consists of four professional staff including the director. Coordination of campus-wide surveys, the UNO campus e-portfolio, the VSA College Portrait, and a campus data warehouse are recent new undertakings.
