Dr. Reed has been on the faculty of the University of Nebraska Omaha since 1982. He has published in numerous journals including Public Administration Review, The American Review of Public Administration, the International Journal of Public Administration and Public Budgeting and Finance, among others. He is also the author of several books on diverse topics including economic development, strategic planning, financial administration and intergovernmental management.
Reed has served on the National Council of the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) and served as chair of the NASPAA Council on Peer Review and Accreditation. He also serves as a member of the National Council of Pi Alpha Alpha, the public administration honor society. His community service includes membership on the Planning Committee for the Urban League of Nebraska. He has previously served as a member of the Omaha Housing Authority Board and as a member of the Greater Omaha Private Industry Council. He has also served as Chair of the Curriculum Committee for Leadership Omaha. Reed has also overseen a number of community outreach initiatives at UNOmaha including: the Safe Futures Initiative to address the problems of youth violence, and the Community Outreach Partnership Center which focuses on building university-community partnerships to address urban problems. He also works closely with other community-based initiatives including the Omaha Community Partnership which addresses violence and drug use, and Project Impact which focuses on eliminating violent crime. Prior to coming to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Dr. Reed worked as Senior Staff Associate and Director of Information Services for the National League of Cities and also served as Director of Community Development of Mexico, Missouri. He has also served on the faculty of Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
As Senior Vice Chancellor, Reed is responsible for overall leadership and administration of programs that serve more than 14,000 students and c. 1,300 faculty and staff in Nebraska's major metropolitan university.
