The University of Nebraska at Omaha seeks an accomplished professional to serve as Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, with leadership responsibility to develop, administer and continuously improve a comprehensive mix of student programs and services, including but not limited to Pre-Admissions, Orientation, Admissions, Registration and Records, Financial Aid, Testing, Dual Enrollment, Student Leadership Programs, Counseling, Housing, Health Services, Judicial Affairs, Multicultural Affairs, Campus Recreation, Veteran's Services and Career Services.

Reed Selected as Sr. Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs (01.19.2012)

Chancellor John Christensen today announced Dr. B.J. Reed has been named senior vice chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs at UNO. The appointment is effective Wednesday, Feb. 1, pending approval from the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.

"We are delighted that Dr. Reed has agreed to serve is this critical position," Christensen said. "His demonstrated leadership and extensive understanding of UNO's mission will allow him to continue the momentum the campus currently enjoys. B.J. also brings the creativity and imagination necessary for UNO to meet our future goals and opportunities."

Reed brings significant academic administrative experience, national connections and deep links to the Omaha community to the post. He has served as dean of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service and was chair of the School of Public Administration at UNO. Since 2006, Reed has held the position of Executive Associate to the Chancellor. Most recently, he has served as interim senior vice chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs.

A professor of Public Administration, Reed is widely published in his field. He is a recognized expert in the areas of management, budgeting and strategic planning. Reed has served as president of the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) and also chaired the organization's Council on Peer Review and Accreditation. He has chaired or served on 15 NASPAA site visits.

He also serves on the editorial boards of the Information Technology for Development Journal and the American Review of Public Administration and is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Public Administrationand currently serves on its board of directors.

A strong advocate of community engagement, Reed serves on many Omaha boards including: Live Well Omaha, Omaha Community Partnership and the Brown Black Coalition. He chairs the Nebraska Humanities Council and is on the advisory board of the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Public Health.

Reed holds an B.A., and M.S. from Fort Hays State University and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Missouri.

The search attracted candidates from across the nation.

"I am honored to be chosen for the position of senior vice chancellor. I have devoted most of my professional life to UNO and I have never wanted to be anywhere else," Reed said. "My hope is that I can continue to contribute in a way that benefits UNO and the University of Nebraska."

The Sponsored Programs and Research (SPR) Report details the results of UNO's work to obtain external funding in support of its teaching, research, service and outreach efforts. The report is designed to keep the university community informed as to externally funded projects on campus and bring recognition to those faculty and staff who have worked to generate these resources.
