BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS


CANDIDACY TO THE BFA PROGRAM

Students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts who have completed Survey of Art History I & II, Studio Core I & II, and 6 cr/hours in their studio concentration, may pursue the option of entering the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program.
Students must complete an (1) Authorization for Registration Form (obtain from Independent Study coordinator or Department Secretary); (2) Provide a portfolio of studio work in chosen concentration; (3) Prepare a written statement addressing technical and historical influences, aesthetic and critical concerns of your work, why you are pursuing the BFA degree and complete mailing address. Minimum hours in General Education courses may also be required.

ACADEMIC CORE REQUIREMENTS(66-71 hours):

English/writing (9 hours)
6 hours of English Compositon
3 hours of Creative Writing (may be counted toward Fine Arts elective)

Humanities (including Public Speaking) (12 hours)
(Humanities 1010 and 1020 not applicable)

Fine Arts (6 hours)
(courses in College of Fine Arts other than Art & Art History)

Social Sciences (12 hours)

Natural Sciences (9 hours)
(may include biology; chemistry; physical geography; geology; computer science;
upper division math with no more than 6 hours in one area.)

Intermediate Algebra or equivelant (3 hours)

Cultural Diversity (6 hours)
(Cultural Diversity requirement may be fulfilled through courses in the major, humanities or social sciences.)
